Russell Young

Russell Youngs screen prints have been called derivative but theres no denying the fact that strong iconography and bold colours capture peoples attention. Somewhere between pop art and kitsch Young’s Warhol inspired diamond dust images aim to capture the dichotomy of Rock and Roll, Hollywood and Fame.

Its thought provoking stuff, aesthetically pleasing one minute then stomach churning the next. An intrusive shot of Kurt Cobain’s corpse taken by journalists from a tree outside his home  probably best explains what Russell is trying to say about the role of the modern celebrity  and it s seedy underbelly and the reality of the Rock n Roll Dream.
